On this day in 1990, the creator of The Muppets Jim Henson died aged 53. Henson’s Muppets featured in Sesame Street and The Muppet Show, with his most famous characters including Kermit the Frog and Elmo. Henson died from organ failure in 1990 in New York City. The Jim Henson Company and the Jim Henson Foundation continued after his death and his characters remain famous and popular.

me & stef & helena lay in stef’s pls back garden the day before the leaving cert with books open all around us and the sun on us and we didnt read a word, just laughed. the night before our leaving cert results me and steph went to big tesco near darndale and bought hula hoops and danced on portmarnock beach. i live 5000 miles away from these women now. steph is in a neuroscience phd, hels is an animator. those days are immortal even though we are older and different and apart. so hold on to every last moment you have with these girls, even the ones who are jerks. school is a vast thing to survive, a whale to find oneself in the belly of. the beast has opened it’s mouth. hold hands and walk on the creatures tongue, step over the teeth to outside. you got through it together. you will not remember algebra, much french or economics. you will remember your companions.
